Just 10 minutes north of downtown San Diego lies the community of Clairemont, a moderately priced neighborhood boasting an enviable commute to major job centers plus views ranging from canyon vistas to ocean overlooks.

Clairemont is one of the most populous neighborhoods in San Diego and includes the separate neighborhoods of North Clairemont, Clairemont Mesa East and Clairemont Mesa West. Bordered by Highway 52 to the north, Interstate 805 to the east, Interstate 5 on the west, and Linda Vista on the south, the neighborhood was first developed in the post-war building boom of the 1950s.

Bay Park resides on the water's edge with an elevation of about 125 feet, providing magnificent views of San Diego, Sea World, Mission Bay Park and Fiesta Island.

A number of resort, hotels and other attractions make up the commercial and tourist elements near this community. Clairemont residents enjoy water sports at Mission Bay Park, golfing on two courses and hiking in Tecolote Canyon Natural Park.

Clairemont Square Shopping Center is the largest shopping development in the area, with theatres, big-box retailers, grocery store, restaurants and various services. Nearby are three other shopping centers, Kearny Mesa industrial park, three public libraries, along with three high schools and junior/middle schools and 12 elementary schools (all a part of San Diego Unified School District).

Clairemont is also home to the University of San Diego (USD) and the Archdiocese of San Diego. Nearby Mesa College, part of the City School District, is a favored by part-time and budget-conscious students.

Two major canyons define the area Tecolote Canyon cuts through the center of the community and San Clemente is on its northern edge. Houses are built on the hillsides and mesas. Although many of the homes were originally typical 1950s tract homes, many have been renovated to include larger living spaces and up-to-date amenities.

This community is ideal for San Diegans house-hunting on a budget, wanting to be near major job centers. Clairemont condos start at $200,000; single-family homes start in the mid-$400,000s and range upwards of $1.6 million. Many neighborhoods enjoy views of Mission Bay and the ocean beyond; others have canyon views.
