A small "island" town in San Diego Bay, Coronado is connected to downtown by the distinctively curved Coronado Bridge and to the City of Imperial Beach to the south via a narrow strip of land called the Silver Strand. Coronado is surrounded by water -- the Pacific Ocean to the west, Glorietta and San Diego Bays to the east, and is home to North Island Naval Air Station and the Naval Amphibious Base.

This uniquely enchanting city, measuring only 14 square miles, is home to some of the world's most pristine beaches, 22 public parks, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and recreational facilities which include a public pool, 15 miles of dedicated bicycle paths and two live theatres.

More than 2 million visitors annually to soak up the sun and the sand in Coronado while enjoying its lush surroundings and beach village appeal. With 15 hotels, including three world class resorts, a host of highly acclaimed restaurants, high-end shops and boutiques, this island community boasts 30,000 residents as well as a flourishing tourist population.

Many unique homes are scattered through out the historical neighborhoods of Coronado. The main residential section is a charming village of homes built before WWII and finished in an upscale art deco look. Square-grid streets are lined with palms giving the island a well-groomed tropical resort atmosphere.

Farther south is Coronado Cays, an upscale gated community on the bayside of Coronado's Silver Strand, filled with one- and two-story homes with boat docks all centered around the Coronado Cays Yacht Club.

Like many other premiere locations in Southern California, Coronado real estate quite pricey. Median home prices are $1.85 million, with condos starting from the mid-$550,000s and single-family homes from $1 million. The city sports a large amount of seasonal housing, typically for vacation or part-time use.

At the south end of the city is the Hotel Del Coronado, a National Historic Landmark dating back to 1888. The hotel has counted some of the world's icons as guests, including Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra plus every US President since Lyndon Johnson. With its distinctive red turrets and glamorous aura, the hotel continues to attract tourists from around the world.

At the other end of Coronado, just across the bay from San Diego, is Ferry Landing Marketplace, Coronado's Specialty bayfront shopping and dining center. From here visitors and residents alike catch the ferry to San Diego.
