The second oldest city in San Diego County, National City is just five miles from downtown San Diego and 10 miles from the Mexico border, and boasts great ocean views.

National City real estate ranges from single-family homes, to condos or mobile homes on mostly flat land. One development of homes is perched on a slightly raised hill with great views of the bay or the mountains to the east. Some areas of the city have traditional-style Victorian homes. The median home price in National City hovers at $450,000; condos begin in the mid $100,000s; while single family homes can be found from low $300,000s.

One of the healthiest business climates in southern California, National City boasts more than 2,500 businesses- a remarkable number for a city with a population of 54,400.

National City's port area extends three miles along San Diego Bay and is part of the largest U.S. Navy installation on the West Coast. Numerous working waterfront businesses are located in National City, including Knight and Carver Yacht Center. The Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association has 16 member companies in National City employing some 600 people.

National City is home to the Mile of Cars one of the nation's first auto malls. The Mile of Cars leads the San Diego area in number of vehicles sold and dollar sales. Westfield Plaza Bonita, an enclosed shopping center with 140 stores, further strengthens National City's economy.

Paradise Valley Hospital is the city's largest employer with over 1,500 employees. Recently celebrating 100 years of healing, Paradise Valley Hospital has begun extensive re-development of its 54 acre campus starting with building affordable work-force housing. This nationally recognized project, called Paradise Walk, contains 96 townhouses. Future development will include a senior living village, a medical office building, and a new hospital building.

Downtown National City has recently undergone beautification, with trees, flowers and landscaping added from one end of the city to the other. Plans for multiple high-rise condominium buildings are underway, offering ocean views and contemporary urban living including retail stores and underground parking. Centro is the first high-rise development to break ground downtown; other projects will include Harbor View, Library Village, Marinus, and Park Village. Also coming soon are an Aquatic Center and Pier Marina 32 adjacent to Pepper Park plus a three star hotel.
