Open space and winding country roads abound, while sidewalks and street lights are conspicuously absent. Meandering driveways lead to Spanish, Mediterranean or ranch style homes flanked by fragrant citrus eucalyptus on multi-acre lots. Welcome home to Rancho Santa Fe, an affluent community just 25 miles north of downtown San Diego.

A California Historic Landmark, Rancho Santa Fe is renowned for its celebrity residents, world class resorts and its beautiful real estate in one of the ten wealthiest communities in the nation.

Residents refer to their exclusive community as "The Ranch", reveling in its low profile and privacy. Most properties are a minimum two acres, and homes must meet standards set by a design board called the Art Jury, even though very few are visible from the road.

The most desirable homes are within Rancho Santa Fe Covenant, but other Rancho Santa Fe neighborhoods are nearly equally is preferred: Horseman's Valley, Rancho Cielo, Morgan Run, Fairbanks Ranch and Crosby Estates. Although there are several condominium developments, large estates predominate, and currently prices start at $1.5 million.

Rancho Santa Fe's equestrian, golf and tennis facilities reign supreme. Resorts host celebrities and some of the most affluent visitors from around the world. Here you will find such superlative equestrian facilities and trainers, that equestrian events during the 1984 Summer Olympics were held here. Bridle paths wind through the area, and polo is a popular activity.

Downtown is centered around the intersection of Linea del Cielo/Paseo Delicias and La Granada/Via de Santa Fe. Financial firms, restaurants, and exclusive shops sit side-by-side with the library and a local school. Except for downtown, Rancho Santa Fe is exclusively residential, with a number of golf courses and country clubs sprinkled in.
