La Jolla Real Estate
La Jolla is one of San
Diego’s most upscale communities, known for its beaches, shopping, dining, and
multi-million dollar homes. Comprising several communities, including Birdrock, Mt. Soledad, the Beach & Barber tract, La Jolla Farms, the Muirlands, and the
UCSD area, the heart of La Jolla is the village with its many restaurants, art
galleries, and boutiques, and the world famous La Jolla Cove.
Bounded by Pacific Beach to
the south, the Torrey Pines Nature Preserve to the north, University City to the
east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west, La Jolla is now fully developed. With
only a few planned communities, principally on Mt. Soledad, La Jolla is made up
of custom homes. A few of the original craftsman style beach cottages, dating
to the early 1900s, still stand but those not designated as historic landmarks
are frequently razed and replaced by new homes. Much of La Jolla’s architecture
bears the mark of Irving Gill, whose Spanish style still influences new
construction today.
While there are some new condominium and apartment
complexes being built, most of La Jolla’s properties are single-family homes, many with spectacular ocean views. La Jolla has several private schools as well
as a highly rated public school system. It frequently appears on various
magazines’ lists of the best places to live in the U.S.
