Santee Real Estate
Santee, located
just 20 minutes from downtown San Diego, was incorporated in 1980 and now has
several major commercial areas, a business community that employs over 17,000
people and offers many recreational opportunities. Residents like the
convenience of the city's urban location combined with its feeling of living in
the country. The Santee Recreation Lakes offer fishing and boating and the
downtown shopping area offers a collection of stores, theatres and restaurants.
Since its
incorporation, Santee has worked steadily to enhance the community's quality of
life. Toward that end, the City Council approved the Town Center Specific Plan, a 700-acre mixed-use development straddling the San Diego River. This project
includes a high-tech office park, multi-family residential, open space, and a
planned 55-acre community park for recreational activities. The San Diego
Trolley has its eastern terminus in the Town Center and includes a major
entertainment and shopping center called Santee Trolley Square that is now open.
Two new
freeways, SR-52 and SR-125, have been extended into the City. In the undeveloped
northern portion of Santee, encompassing almost 25% of the City, is an area
known as Fanita Ranch. This 2600-acre site is envisioned as a significant
master-planned community providing high quality recreation and residential
living.
Many of the lower
priced condominiums in Santee were built in the 1970s. The Mission La Vega
and Carefree developments offer 2 bedroom units starting in the mid $200,000s.
Tamberly, Lakeview, Riderwood Meadows and Carlton Oaks Condominiums built in the
1980s go for the low to mid $300,000s. Detached single-family homes begin in
the mid $300,000s in the Carlton Hills and Santee Lakes areas. Homes in Fanita
Ranch and El Nopal Estates offer larger lots, and many homes beginning in the
high $500,000s have swimming pools, Spanish and ranch styling, and modern
amenities. Large pieces of land remain available for development in Rancho El
Cajon Heights, offering spectacular vistas over the surrounding hills and valleys.
Santee remains
one of San Diego’s most value-oriented communities. Santee is proud to have one
of the five lowest crime rates in the nation for several years running, plus a
highly regarded school system making it the first choice for many families.
