Solana Beach Real Estate
Solana Beach is
located 21 miles from downtown San Diego along coastal I-5. It is an upscale,
small city tucked between Encinitas and Del Mar. Solana Beach starts at the
ocean, rises into the hills of Lomas Santa Fe, and then levels off again toward
Rancho Santa Fe. The city was incorporated in 1986 and currently has
approximately 14,000 residents.
The I-5 freeway,
running north-south divides the city. West of the freeway is the older part of
town, also known as Olde Solana Beach, with quaint antique shops, the Cedros
Design District, galleries, restaurants, and shops. Many of the homes in this
area are older beach cottages with beautiful views over the Pacific. In order
to provide the town with those vistas, Fletcher Cove was created using hydraulic
water pressure to erode tons of earth in the 1920s. Some of the original beach
cottages have been renovated and expanded, while others have been torn down and
replaced with larger, more luxurious homes.
The Lomas Santa Fe
golf course is located on the east side of the I-5 freeway. The homes here in
Santa Fe Hills, Lomas Santa Fe, and Solana Hills, were built in the past 20
years. Most of them are large and offer views inland across the valleys or west
to the Pacific.
Prices for
condominiums in Solana Beach begin in the $500,000s with homes close to and
above $1 million. The community is home to many artisans, high tech businesses
and professionals and offers some of the highest rated schools in California.
